The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise was sentenced to a three month shore leave while their ship was being repaired. Leonard McCoys ex-wife decided that helping save the planet and the rest of the federation was a good reason to see his daughter. Spock was recollecting himself at the academy, where he planned out where his life was going to go next. Nyota Uhura visited friends and relatives, Chekov invited Sulu and his family to Russia, and Scotty was flaunting his new knowledge around Scottish bars. How Jules ended up in a well furnished room on a near by docking station was a blur to her, clouded by emotion and pain-killers.
A familiar chime sounded. After a few wasted moments, she called, Come in. Doors whooshed open, revealing a smiling James T. Kirk, still glowing with smug joy.
Whatcha doin here? Why arent you with family? Kirk looked idly at scribbled blueprints and models made of tiny legos.
I volunteered to stay and help fix the Enterprise. She watched him pick up a clipping from an old 22nd century magazine, purposing the idea of warp speed space crafts.
Why? Dont you have Family? Friends?
More than friends? Kirk looked away from the work desk to focus on the quarter-Vulcan female.
No one important. Jules voice lower slightly, painful and on the verge of choking.
Well
Anyplace you wanted to see before you leave for five years? Kirk leaned back against a chair.
Earth has nothing to offer me. Ive seen more of earth than I ever wanted to see. Her voice had a bite to it, again holding something back. Kirk was silent, as if he was plotting out the best plan of attack.
It must have been hard to watch Vulcan go down like that. He looked her dead on, she turned away.
I was not indigenous to Vulcan. My mother moved to Earth with my father so I didnt exactly have a close relationship with that planet. Jules distracted herself with a picture of a ship she helped restore for an advanced engineering class back at the academy. Why are you here? I know you have a family. We all know how much you like to talk about them.
My mother and brother are both out on away missions. Im all alone unless I want to hang around stepdad number
whatever. The silence was long and growing dangerously between the two. But Im asking about you. No one important doesnt exactly mean you dont have any living relatives. Whats with that? He knew he was pushing it, but he might as well try.
Id rather not talk about it. That was the end of that, at least for now. Kirk walked over to the quarter-Vulcan cautiously, as if he was going to touch a gallons worth of red matter. He lightly touched a stiff shoulder and lowered himself down on the couch, watching carefully for reactions. She was breathing slightly faster than normal, and even faster still when her captain gently pried the picture from her hands.
If this is some way to get an easy lay, youre in the wrong room. Jules glared at the slight contact between his fingers and hers.
That isnt why Im here. He stated almost as if offended, even though he knew it was a dead lie. I was checking to see how you were healing. Apparently, Bones wasnt lying when he was talking about all that medical shit that day on the shuttle.
I was near an area where there was exposure to the space outside. Luckily, some loose metal covered the spot long enough for me to fix the hole. Jules said, consumed in thought. Kirk watched as her lips thought over a couple of theories that where going to need revisiting. He smiled when her head jerked back into reality. She was very smart. This combined with the rumors he heard about her being cocky, a perfectionist, hot-tempered, and an over-all bitch intrigued him. Yup, He was going to have fun with this one!
